Unintentional anticipation might be the name of Opeth’s next album
On the night of the penultimate stop of the "The Last Will and Testament Tour", fans filled the historic Paramount Theatre in Seattle, many arrived to the unfortunate news that the headliners opener Katatonia’s tour bus broke down and the Swedish heavy metal band is going to miss the Seattle show. The nearly sold out venue patiently sat for an hour and a half from doors before Opeth took the stage.
If that much patience wasn’t indicative of how diehard the fans were, the amount of noise that emitted from the crowd the second the lights dimmed was evidence enough.
Lead vocalist Mikael Akerfeldt did not delay ripping into their first song “S1” from their most recent album, and the crowd certainly did not mind the wait as an everyone was on their feet and pushing forward toward the pit barriers.
Opeth’s storied discography was on full display as they tore through a set list of what seemed to be everyone’s favorite songs. I use the word tore very generously as many of their songs are twice the length of a standard track.
Opeth left it all on stage. An outstanding performance that made a night to remember. Everyone will have a sore throat at work tomorrow.
