Seattle’s historic Showbox has seen its fair share of unforgettable acts, but whatever went down Friday night with Joey Valence & Brae? That was on another level entirely. Part of their Hyperyouth Tour, JVB (@heyybrae @joeyvalence) rolled in from Pennsylvania and made it clear right away: this isn’t some throwback act chasing nostalgia. It’s a full blown shift in the musical landscape. A JV…Beastquake, if you will.

And seriously, how do you even describe their sound without mentioning the Beastie Boys? The comparison is unavoidable, but JVB aren’t just rehashing the past. They take that old-school flavor and twist it into something wild and new, a mash up of rave chaos, punk energy, and so many nerdcore references you couldn’t make it up if you tried. You can’t fake that kind of authenticity. Each track on Hyperyouth takes a new swing, tries something fresh, but they never lose that signature spark that makes them, well, them.

What hit hardest last night, though, wasn’t just the sound, it was the connection. The crowd was loud, rowdy, fully locked in, and JVB gave it right back.

Seattle’s always had a thing for the bold and the offbeat. From grunge to jazz to punk, this city’s built on rebellion and reinvention. In that sense, Joey Valence & Brae fit right in. Their sound might not echo the flannel donning past, but the spirit? That’s pure Seattle, unapologetic, loud, and fearless. Last night, they didn’t just play a show here, they carved their own place into the city’s musical story.

The Showbox will bounce back eventually. But for now, everyone who packed that room knows they saw something wild. If the Hyperyouth Tour hits your city, don’t sleep on it. Call in sick. Pawn something. Beg a ride. Just go. You’ll thank yourself later.
