What makes Blind Guardian so special? Their songs so memorable? These questions were running through my mind while I was headbanging and screaming "VALHALLA!!!" at the top of my lungs.

I first listened to Blind Guardian while at school in Mexico, where I was introduced to their music by my good friend Alfonso, who is a huge fan. Their music became a soundtrack for studying, homework, and a few all-nighters.

Blind Guardian is explosive and powerful, with a distinct sound throughout. The drums are tastefully orchestrated, using toms that contrast with the frantic double bass—a testament to the stamina and endurance of Frederik Ehmke. André Olbrich and Marcus Siepen trade riffs and solos with a unique combination of tone and effects that have become characteristically their own. Johan Van Stratum on bass ties the music together with a percussive yet melodic rendition of the songs. Lastly, Hansi Kürsch, with a beautifully unique voice, builds on top of the instrumentation and takes us on a fantastic journey.

I’m still amazed by the power of their performance and the connection with their fans, who sang nonstop throughout their set.

But, coming back to the original question: what makes Blind Guardian so special? I think, somehow, they can tap into something primal in our DNA that longs for adventure. Like reading a fantasy book, their music takes us on a journey into the unknown. You might have had a long day at work, but while you’re at a Blind Guardian concert, you can close your eyes and enjoy the trip through Valhalla and Middle Earth.
