St. Vincent gifted Seattle one of the most beautiful evenings imaginable.  The show took place at a sold-out Seattle Town Hall, a former Church of Christ, Scientist— a space that, despite its secular transformation, retains a layout reminiscent of its religious origins.  On the night of the March 5th, every soul waited patiently on long pews echoing with the past; only now, we were waiting for a different Saint to take the stage and offer us answers, hope, and faith.

The evening featured Annie’s bandmate Rachel Eckroth on Keys.  Together, they ventured into a Chancel boiling with anticipation to perform a minimalist reimaging of her catalog, which was equal parts playful and vulnerable.  Their performance felt like a conversation between two old friends— open to the unexpected and pliable with joyful musicianship.

Every song was beautifully transformed into a canvas of soul and ambience, providing a platform for power and energy of the guitar and vocals that resonated through every crevice of this ornamented venue. Through the night Annie led us down a road of melancholy, anger, and passion, all blended with her signature charisma and authentic connection with the audience.

This show, presented by the PDX Jazz Festival, served as a breathtaking kickoff to the festival season—a performance for the ages that felt like a true gift to the city of Seattle. While this special evening took place up north, the heart of the festival continues in Portland from March 5th to 14th, featuring some of the most renowned acts in jazz. If you are in the Rose City, do not miss the opportunity to experience these outstanding live performances. Secure your tickets now and show your support for live music.
