There are many parallels between music and photography. Photography is about finding beauty in contrast—balancing light and shadow, warm and cool tones, and everything in between. Similarly, Morning View by Incubus exemplifies the beauty of contrast in music. It moves effortlessly from tender ballads that make us feel seen and loved, to explosive, head-banging anthems that make us jump, and yell — goodbye!

Each song is a microcosm of sonic exploration. Mike Einziger’s guitar and the basslines—now carried by Nicole Row—shift from soft, sustained notes to jolts of electric adrenaline. José Pasillas, on drums, delivers rhythms that are both powerful and tasteful, evolving throughout each track, breathing in and out, tribal at times, yet never afraid to crash when the moment calls for it.

Chris Kilmore’s turntable scratches and atmospheric textures act as a sonic palate cleanser, seamlessly blending sections while somehow making the crowd air-scratch along. How is that even possible?

And then there’s Brandon Boyd—his voice, timeless and emotive, carries lyrics that are etched into my memory. They still resonate as anthems for so many of us.

Morning View was also my introduction to Incubus, and it holds a very special place in my heart. How much, you ask? Well… it’s hard for me to specify.
